Slocan Site Redevelopment
The Slocan Site Redevelopment Project in East Vancouver is transforming the former Sunny Hill Healthcare Centre property into the BC Childrens Hospital Centre for Health Complexity, a first of its kind facility for children with severe medical conditions.
Cancon's scope was broken into two contractors. An excavation contract that included all bulk excavation, shoring, detailed excavation and backfill, and slab preparation. And a civil contract for all site servicing with watermains, storm and sanitary mains, as well as site grading and roadworks.
The project required and requires extensive planning and coordination so as to allow install of all civil infrastructure efficiently in limited working room areas while maintaining no impact on building operations or existing active health care facilities on the campus. Cancon managed complex underground utility conflicts and implemented innovative solutions to maintain project schedule.
The excavation contract is complete; the civil contract Is in process and expected to finish in 2027.
